Conductors of the Russian Railway taught to understand foreigners using the smartphone

Federal Passenger Company (FPC) (enters into the Russian Railway) equipped mobile devices of conductors of long distance trains with the application of PROMT for the translation of the foreign text and a voice. The director of the department of ERP of management of information technologies of FPC Oleg Emchenko told about it in September, 2018.

The application is installed on the protected mobile devices with which the Russian Railway provides conductors. It was finished specially under requirements of FPC. In addition to the main translation functionality software of PROMT is capable to distinguish oral speech in noisy conditions and to automatically translate it into the necessary language, developers claim. The application supports phrasebooks of a set of languages.

In addition, it allows to transfer not only oral speech and the entered text, but also texts on pictures, for example, declarations, price labels and names of dishes to the menu.

Important opportunity in FPC call capability of the application of PROMT to work in offline mode, unlike software for transfers from Google and "Yandex" which the company also considered as options.

Level of knowledge of foreign languages at conductors of trains in Russia, and not only at them, leaves much to be desired. According to Emchenko, even in trains of the international message there is a situation when in foreign languages only the limited number of conductors can express.

The need for use for application trains for transfers is also connected with it. It is especially relevant during in the country of the large-scale events assuming arrival of a large number of foreign guests. For example, such as FIFA World Cup which took place in June.

FPC found it difficult to call precisely TAdviser how many conductors of all as of September have an application of PROMT. As envisioned by the company, all conductors should have it on smartphones as a part of equipment. The license for it of software at FPC unlimited.

Before on a substantial scale installing the application on mobile devices, it was "rolled" within a pilot project by number of trains during the Cup of confederations in 2017. After that it was finished according to notes of FPC.
