On May 30, 2018 the AMT Group company announced project completion on creation of a centralized system of monitoring of information and engineering infrastructures for Federal Research Center Informatika i upravleniye Federal State Institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (FITs IU RAS). A system is created based on solution open-source using IoT technologies (Internet of Things) and components of the Russian production.

The created end-to-end system of monitoring with the single interface of management is responsible for management of a distributed infrastructure of four objects of FITs RAS with a total area more than 26,500 sq.m. Each building is equipped with the systems of the central water heating, water supply, water disposal, power supply and lighting. A system allows to trace keyword parameters of telecommunication, server and technology equipment.

The centralized system of monitoring provides the customer with means for monitoring and maintenance of components of the engineering systems and IT infrastructure in operating state. In addition, a system timely informs responsibles of FITs RAS on emergence of faults, emergency and preemergency situations on components of the engineering systems, reducing time of their detection and elimination.

The main requirements to the created system were flexible scalability of a system; visualization of objects of monitoring; forecasting of emergency situations and the notification about events by e-mail and the SMS. Also when choosing the solution a significant factor was implementation cost and further maintenance of a system.

For the solution of an assigned task open-source the solution Zabbix - a monitoring system of the corporate level with a distributed architecture which can be used for monitoring difficult, of the high-loaded and geographically distributed IT infrastructures was selected.

At creation of a system by the staff of AMT Group subsystems were unrolled and united in a uniform complex based on Zabbix monitoring system following:

  • server and telecommunication equipment;
  • components of an automated system of scheduling and control of parameters of the environment based on IoT technologies and classical solutions APCS.

The subsystem of monitoring of server and telecommunication equipment is constructed using regular means of the Zabbix system and allows to trace parameters of operability of servers, routers, switches, cybersecurity, Wi-Fi of controllers and access points.

The subsystem of scheduling and control of parameters of the environment is constructed using IoT technologies and the equipment of the Russian production. The system developed in four buildings provides continuous control:

  • temperature and air humidity in server, the cross, cabinets of installation of telecommunication equipment;
  • air temperatures on an input and the output of the conditioners installed in server premises;
  • temperatures of joint stock bank;
  • existence of leakages in server premises;
  • statuses of the adjacent systems – ventilation, gas extinguishing installations, the systems of a fire and security alarm;
  • system management of prevention of flooding of the accumulator room located in the basement.

In architecture of network opportunities for multiple increase in functions of monitoring, management and a scope of new objects are put. As basic elements of a system the PLCs of the Russian production interacting among themselves under the protocol which is based on MQTT-S are applied:

  • TD-WIO is the built-in sensor of temperature humidity and a connectivity to two additional sensors;
  • TD-IO6 is connection of 6 different sensors;
  • TD-GATEWAY is the gateway with support of the protocols MQTT, syslog, SNMP and with a possibility of use of the built-in Zabbix of the agent.

In addition, for control of load distribution on racks in server premises, Legrand electric power counters with support of the Modbus protocol were installed. Integration of power meters with Zabbix allowed to trace in a monitoring system loading on each PDU, phases distortion, a deviation of power voltage. Together with monitoring of the UPS it allows the staff of FITs to keep track of quality of power supply of the server hardware continuously.
