Military academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation — the highest military school for training, preparation and advanced training of the highest and senior officers of Armed Forces, other ministries and departments of the Russian Federation, heads and officials of bodies of the state and executive power, the enterprises and organizations of defense industry complex, officers of foreign armies.
The main objective of Academy is preparation of the officer personnel of Armed Forces of the top military skills of operational and strategic level and specialists in the field of defense and security of the Russian Federation from among officers of Armed Forces, other troops (forces) of the ministries and departments and also the civilians holding executive positions in state bodies. Besides, in Academy officers of armies of the foreign states have training.
History
Throughout the existence the academy had names:
- for 2018 — Military the Orders of Lenin Decorated with the Order of the Red Banner the Orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
- since 1992 — Military academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation;
- since 1969 — Military the Orders of Lenin Decorated with the Order of the Red Banner academy of the General Staff of the Order of Suvorov of Armed Forces of the USSR of K.E. Voroshilov;
- since 1958 — Military academy of the General Staff of Armed Forces of the USSR;
- since 1942 — the Highest military academy of K.E. Voroshilov;
- since 1941 — Military academy of the General Staff of RKKA of K.E. Voroshilov;
- since 1936 — Academy of the General Staff of RKKA;
- since 1921 — the RKKA Military academy;
- since 1918 — Academy of the General Staff of the Red Army (RKKA);
- since 1917 — the Nikolaev military academy;
- since 1910 — Imperial Nikolaev military academy;
