On June 14, 2018 it became known that the St. Petersburg stadium at which play the games World Cup 2018 in Russia was constructed using the software of Tekla Structures of Trimble company. This tool implementing philosophy of BIM (Building Information Modelling) allowed contractors – project and installation contractors - to qualitatively perform complex work, having met the tough deadline. The stadium has the unique structural elements.

St. Petersburg stadium

The St. Petersburg stadium with a capacity of 67 thousand audience is designed by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. On it is mute will seven matches of World Cup 2018 are played.

Climatic features of location of the city of St. Petersburg caused emergence of a number of design features of a construction, in particular, of an exit field and the sliding roof 286 meters wide closing a field during bad weather. Construction of stadium lasted about ten years, there was a change of contractors that led to serious concerns of failure to meet time constraints because of insufficient development of the work documentation. When the project was transferred to designers of Kurganstalmost company, they defined assembly sequence of all elements, reviewed arrangement of weld joints regarding access to them at installation and made corresponding changes to BIM model. Using Tekla Structures they managed to reveal quickly possible collisions and to avoid excess works on a building site. It allowed to bring in a short time construction of stadium into accord with requirements of FIFA. According to technologists of Kurganstalmost company, use of BIM technologies was crucial, considering the tough schedule.
