ELAR delivered A2B Planskan ELAR scanner in the Russian VTR state archive

On July 11, 2018 the corporation ELAR announced delivery to Russian state archive of Navy (RGA VTR) scanner ELAR Planskan A2B. In addition to the daily work connected with numerous requests of digital copies of materials users and the staff of archive with its help are going to transfer to an electronic form more than 12,000 sheets of documents in 2018.

Funds of the Admiralty office, State admiralties boards (1717-1827), its offices and expeditions and also documents on formation of Russian and the Soviet fleet on Baltika, the Azov, Black, Caspian seas, Arctic and Quiet oceans are provided to RGA VTR. In addition, funds of personal origin of outstanding naval commanders, seafarers and scientists - V.M. Golovina, F.P. Litke, S.O. Makarova, A.S. Menshikov, the grand duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, family fund of Butakov, etc. are stored in organization.

2916 funds of archive contain 1.2 million cases since the end of the 17th century till 1941 of 25% of documents — originals which are national property and are of scientific value. Digitization will ensure safety of valuable and rare copies, and materials of funds which were available only to visitors of the reading room earlier will be open for researchers from around the world from an every spot on the globe.

Documents of archive interest not only the Russian researchers: in 2017 on the website of RGA VTR more than 60 thousand users from 7 countries were registered. Because among users and employees the amount of requests for providing digital copies of different documents constantly grows, the decision to add A2B Planskan ELAR professional scanner to archive was made. With its help it is possible to transfer any documents of the A2+ format to an electronic form, and thanks to the advanced trilinear system of scanning and the software for image processing ELAR Planskan of A2B perfectly copes with digitization of archive documents.

Staff of archive constantly is faced the need to scan documents, sometimes - huge folders and volumes up to 1500 sheets. To reduce physical activity on people and as much as possible to automate their work, we made the decision to replace the old scanner with a professional equipment of ELAR Planskan of A2B which performance allows to maintain as daily current loadings, and to cope with planned digitization of funds.
