History
2023: Development of a system for accurate measurement of land plots using drones
In mid-November 2023, Russian scientists from Kemerovo State University announced the development of a new platform for accurate measurement of residential areas and other territories. The system provides for the use of a network of specialized geodetic stations and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The geodetic station, according to RIA Novosti, is a receiver that measures ground coordinates using GPS and GLONASS signals. It is claimed that the accuracy of determining the boundaries of the sites reaches several centimeters. This information is available through a companion application.
As the project manager Eduard Pikalov notes, users will be able to receive the coordinates of their object through their personal account. You can interact with the system in real time: in particular, using drones and a network of geodetic stations, you can create digital models of the area, update maps and monitor the landscape. The platform will be useful when looking for places of potential violations of land legislation.
The new method of measuring land plots using drones makes it possible to measure territories for 15 minutes: at the same time, the declared accuracy is 2 cm. For comparison: alternative methods for assessing territorial borders involve a long calibration of equipment (up to 8 hours) and do not take into account the risks of the human factor. As of November 2023, the deployed network unites 36 geodetic stations located within the Kemerovo region. In addition, the system includes a computer center. All stations are connected by communication channels for collecting and processing satellite data. It is expected that the network will allow specialists from the fields of geodesy, cartography, construction and design and survey work to reduce costs, increase the accuracy of measurements and reduce the labor intensity of processes.[1]
