2018: Start of a disaster-proof cloud system in Russia
On August 28, 2018 it became known that the international service provider Orange Business Services announced start in Russia disaster-proof (disaster-avoidance) of a public cloud platform meeting increased requirements of business to reliability of data storage and the continuity of business processes based on two Moscow data centers of IXcellerate and Dataline. In case of failure of one of data centers proposed solution reduces idle time of service from several to several o'clock minutes that almost completely excludes data loss of business and critical applications – for example, the online stores which are responsible for work, services of armorings and transaction processing and also does not allow the accompanying financial damage.
Technically cloud platform represents a hyper convergent cluster in which all computing resources and storage systems are united in a uniform node using the vSAN platform from VMware. Thanks to the fact that the cloud is territorially distributed between two data centers of the Tier III level all data are synchronously replicated with a delay less than 1 millisecond and in it there is no uniform point of failure. All this allows Orange to guarantee to the clients the level of availability of service of 99.99% and above and simplifies both maintenance, and scaling of service. Access to service is provided through own communication channels that gives the chance to be sure of quality of its providing on all sections of network.
The option of disaster-proof reservation provided on OPEX model will cost approximately 30% of the cost of the complete backup copy of the client cloud IT resources necessary for ensuring the same level of reliability. At the same time creation of a disaster-proof cloud by own efforts will demand increase in investments into own infrastructure and its service more than twice.
