2018: Construction of "green" DPC in Utszyan
On October 25, 2018 the Delta Electronics company, one of representatives in area of solutions for management of power supply and thermal regulation, with assistance of the American Council for eco-friendly construction (USGBC) developed and constructed the "green" DPC certified according to the LEED v4 ID+C Gold standard for the research and production center in the city of Utszyan (People's Republic of China). Delta purpose – to create "green" buildings everywhere where it conducts activity; for the last ten years the company built in the different countries of 26 such constructions.
The area of DPC of Delta in Utszyan of only 135 m ², but it executes processing of important corporate data of the company: crucial systems and applications, such as ERP systems, e-mail and business process management. Ecological certificates of LEED from USGBC are recognized the most authoritative in the world. Presence at the building of such certificate means that premises and process of construction satisfy to "green" standards and provide the high level of reliability and stability.
At design of DPC the task to reduce the number of physical servers, at the same time to meet the growing demand for IT services and to reduce energy consumption was set. Virtualization of servers increased efficiency of use of resources, simplified systems management and allowed to achieve bigger flexibility from a traditional configuration.
One of tasks of DPC was evident demonstration to clients of advanced technologies of the company that demanded centralization of resources and the general system integration. At the DPC organization in the office building it was necessary to consider such restrictions as the available area, floor height and also existence and quantity of outside windows.
The engineering Delta group paid special attention to four key aspects: to power supply, conditioning, racks and monitoring system. The DPC was separated into the cold zone and a hot zone isolated from each other with 24 racks. Within 5 years energy consumption in DPC will reach 140 kW. These infrastructure management systems, information on loading of the IT equipment and the image from surveillance cameras in real time are brought to the videowall made of 2х2 LCD monitors. It helps to carry out monitoring and to manage energy consumption of DPC.
In DPC in Utszyan Delta placed own equipment and energy saving solutions. By criteria of LEED the choice of location and transport availability, energy consumption and the atmosphere and also efficiency of consumption of water were highly appreciated.
In an electric power supply system of DPC DPH series Delta Modulon UPSes — high-performance, completely modular devices from AC-AC conversion efficiency to 96% are used. Hot swap of power modules gives the chance to upgrade DPC in the long term without breaks in service. The power distribution office placed in a rack also has modular construction. The number of its output breakers with a possibility of hot swap and two sets of distribution frames can be brought to 42. It provides reliable protection on a power supply and a possibility of control, and the flexibility and scalability allows to adapt a system to the actual requirements of electric power distribution without effort. All these features guarantee that the DPC in Utszyan can be easily expanded for satisfaction of the growing IT requirements within the next five years. The additional security level in DPC is provided by fire extinguishing systems and face recognition.
Also use of renewable energy sources, adaptation of the cooling system to local conditions and other features of DPC in Utszyan helped make an object really "green". The photo-electric system installed on a roof of the research and production center generates 4% of the electric power necessary for work of DPC, and it is nearly 20 thousand kWh a year. Including thanks to effective to use of renewable energy sources the utszyansky DPC of Delta underwent certification of LEED.
