In SKFU trial operation of DPC with engineering infrastructure based on the solutions Schneider Electric came to the end

On November 1, 2018 the Schneider Electric company announced completion of trial operation of a data processing center of the North Caucasian Federal University (NCFU). According to the company, since 2016 the cooling system and uninterrupted power, constructed based on the solutions Schneider Electric, function in the normal mode, ensuring continuous functioning of DPC of the university.

Consolidation of higher education institutions of the South of Russia within SKFU set the task of creation of the uniform IT infrastructure and the platform ensuring its continuous functioning for educational institution. The solution had to meet the requirements of the federal university: special reliability, power efficiency and low operational cost. According to the results of the held tender the contractor on creation of DPC selected the Ural center of security systems. The Schneider Electric company as the proposed complete solution of vendor as much as possible conformed to requirements of the customer became equipment supplier for the project.

In this case to the customer the "turnkey" complete solution in which all elements are compatible with each other optimum was required. At the same time one of the main requirements to engineering infrastructure of DPC was simplicity of operation as service of all engineering systems was supposed forces of specialists of the university without involvement of the third-party companies or expansion of the state.

In the machine hall of DPC for placement of the IT equipment 25 server cabinets of APC NetShelter SX 42U, 6 high from which are used have the increased width (750 mm) and are intended for placement of active and passive network equipment.

In the cooling system the solution on the basis of three Uniflair ERAF 1221A chillers redundant on the scheme "2+1" and supporting the freecooling mode is used. At rather low ambient temperature cooling of liquid in the system of cold supply of DPC is provided with an atmospheric air that allows to reduce costs on power supply. The impossibility of reconstruction of buildings and premises of educational institution therefore all equipment is installed in a distance from the pressurized zone of DPC was considered and is connected with it underground services.

For November, 2018 for maintenance of optimal temperature in the server hall 8 intra line InRow RC conditioners are used, refrigerating capacity of all conditioners is 210 kW. Temperature monitoring in functional zones of DPC provides 31 sensors that allows a monitoring system to detect emergence of potential zones of overheating beforehand.

According to Schneider Electric, power supply of DPC 3 uninterruptible power supply unit (UPSU) of Galaxy 5500, 120 kVA provide everyone, the "rings" functioning by the principle. Each cabinet receives a power supply from two independent UPSes that allows to take one source out of service without prejudice to work of all system in general. At the same time the battery life of DPC is not less than 15 minutes, it is enough for start of the standby generator unit and switching to reserve lines. Power supply in cabinets is implemented on measuring blocks of power distribution Schneider Electric providing control of the power consumed by the IT equipment and tracking of dynamics of its change. All electric boards in DPC are also constructed based on components from Schneider Electric.

DPC as a system — not just a set of components, and a difficult engineering complex in which each element should be combined with others for operability of all solution. The Schneider Electric company offered us such equipment which is meeting all modern standards and technologies which efficiency is confirmed with practice. Operation since 2016 showed that orientation to the solutions checked by the market is an optimal and pragmatic way. During this time on an object there were shutdowns of power supply, but the DPC continued to function in the normal mode — these facts testify for benefit of correctness of our choice.
