2018: Implementation of technology for independent registration of baggage
The Moscow Domodedovo Airport and S7 airline implemented SelfBagDrop (SBD) smart technology for independent registration and checking in. The procedure takes less than a minute and considerably reduces time necessary for accomplishment of preflight formalities. On October 8, 2018 representatives of Domodedovo Airport reported about it.
The technology is developed by SITA company. Joint testing on front desks of S7 is held since the beginning of September, 2018. About 1000 positive responses of passengers about service were during this time received.
By the end of 2018 24 front desks will be equipped with booths of SBD that will allow to use service to passengers of other airlines.
At the special booth Scan&Fly on a front desk the passenger can independently check in luggage. The device is equipped with the scanner of documents and the hand infrared scanner of barcodes. If the passenger on hands has a boarding pass and a luggage label, registration of baggage will require only three contacts. At first it is necessary to bring to the scanner the printing or electronic boarding pass with the code, then to scan a label and to paste it on a bag. If the traveler has no label yet, it can be printed in the booth. The passenger puts a bag with the label pasted on it on a conveyor tape.
"It is an important stage in transformation of a travel from Domodedovo Airport. We actively implement paperless and smart technologies that passengers could manage freely the time at the airport". Igor Borisov, director of the Moscow Domodedovo Airport |
"An opportunity to independently register and check in luggage allows to reduce time of stay in the airport significantly. Houses or at work the passenger can register himself and personal baggage on run, pay additional services, and at the airport – only to print the boarding pass on a reprinter and to hand over a suitcase on a rack of independent registration of baggage. It will take only several minutes. Then it is possible to pass in a control zone at once". Svetlana Kulyukina, director of the department of passenger experience of S7 Group |
The Domodedovo Airport implements the large-scale program for transition to paperless technologies of service. Since 2017 eGate – the automated tourniquets for processing of electronic boarding passes are installed in the terminal. They allow passengers to undergo independently control at an input in a zone of a departure and aboard the plane. For this purpose it is enough to aviatravellers to attach the QR code on the mobile device to the scanner.
