Gafur Nigmatullin in 2013 remembered an interview start of development of the company:
Actually the words "Kommersant", "co-operator" carried a negative shade in those days. Kommersant in general it was read as "speculator". But, really, for many it was unimportant, than to be engaged. And it, perhaps, at that time was an obstacle in development of the company as as soon as easier income, even short-term shone, people did not maintain and left. For me commerce was never a dream, creativity – i.e. implementation of in what is interesting creation something new was initial the purpose.
And why IT sphere? I then did not know other more perspective spheres and now I do not know. We carefully cultivated at once this part of activity, at first in the form of investment activities. It is simple to purpose to earn money never was.
In search of the place we tried a lot of things including trade. Sold game programs. Then at the peak of popularity there were Atari computers, but there was a problem with disk drives – they cost much, almost like computer therefore to sell software on diskettes meant at once strongly to narrow already narrow market. We invited designers from recorder production "Aksion", set the task to develop the adapter that to write toys from the computer on normal audio cassettes. Here on these cartridges then sold games. Even started advertizing in the magazine Radio and began to sell across all Russia. In this market there was no big money, of course.
And further time of Atari left, the market filled Sinclair, the direction we contracted and replaced the platform – went towards DVK, processor 1801. Delivered this iron in computer classes, provided support, installation, installation, repair.
There was very short episode. I initially worked at the Radio plant, in the 88th the idea was born – why not to make computers, naturally, at capacities of the Radio plant – to select section of workshop, mounters and to begin to do computers. I was invited by the director, we communicated, then he did not understand yet that orders of defense industry will not be any more, it is necessary to undertake something, and told: "Do you see a factory pipe from an office window? Hold it – you will not be gone". Old the person had a tempering. Then I also said goodbye to the idea to continue to work with "iron".
By the way, years 10 later they after all began to make computers.
Start of development of accounting software
At that time to 1C there was a popular program "Finance without Problems" (in my opinion, it is created in Mariupol). Then this program was gone also the company – too. Here it is possible to learn even the version history. We found it at someone from clients for a long time, it became clear that children developed the program, but at some point somehow dissipated, lost resources. But certain clients still relatively recently, about 10 years ago, were supported. And 1C was already followed.
We could go too, but if were in Moscow. I though I there often was in those days did not want to move to Moscow and saw many companies from the province. Without any Moscow there were many sensible people, everyone, and are reasonable, considered himself the genius. However, at the same time it is not enough who wanted to be engaged in accounting automation. Boringly, troublesome, long.
When your enterprise is owed one billion, and you should as much others too, it was senseless speak about need of business optimization which allowed you to save at most 20–30%. But there were heads to whom it was interesting, they understood that all events are a foam, and wanted to develop, automate processes in the company. In the 1990th them was a little, generally it were chief accountants who should have handed over the reporting what was created at this time in the country.
Well and the second problem: people left because money was necessary. It seemed to them that in the country any more will never be about, and in such conditions nobody needs software development. By the way, here a bright illustration of how worked. We somehow were calculated with the employee who left, not money (they physically were not), and 200–300 kg of beef. She agreed with Prodtorg, and they took away meat, gave her money. And often we sold software for specific goods which somehow were converted then into money. Often paid off us with food. Here such there was time.
The jump in market development was definitely not. Despite total barter, process went, and there were people, it allowed us to develop. When Chubais with a command cancelled barter after a default when they understood that all who were not necessary to them died, everything began to pass into a normal bed. Offsets were closed, the sphere of automation of financial management, accounting began to develop. At the same time computer equipment was already total in those days. Then there were safe customers whose projects already allowed the company to live and develop.
I sent the first development team of automation of accounting to study in accounting school that they realized all system of work and understood how in a complex to automate it. And, to my astonishment, this group did not cope, programmers studied, but all the same could not draw the scheme and realize communications. Not so just it appeared, over it it was necessary to think.
This problem was overcome by other group among which there were Konstantin Istomin, Igor Makarov, Dmitry Ivanov. The scheme was created[1]
