He held the position of a specialist in Windows Server and System Center solutions in the Russian representative office of Microsoft.
In 2012, he joined Veeam Software as a technical consultant. Since 2016, he held the position of regional manager, head of the sales segment, and later - head of the mid-sized and large business segment in Russia and the CIS.
2020: Veeam Regional Director for Russia and CIS
In February 2020, Veeam announced the appointment of Vladimir Klyavin to the position of regional director of the company in Russia, the CIS, Ukraine, Georgia. His predecessor Vasily Vaganov, who headed the Russian office since 2011, and later, as vice president, in addition to Russia and the CIS, who was also responsible for the markets of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, continues to work for the company. The geography of his responsibility has expanded: now the list of regions for which he is responsible also includes Northern Europe.
The change of head in Russia and the CIS became known shortly after the American investment fund Insight Venture Partners announced the purchase of Veeam. The deal is scheduled to be completed in Q1 2020. According to its terms, the creators of Veeam Andrei Baronov and Ratmir Timashev leave the board of directors of the company, and William Largent will become the CEO of Veeam instead of Baronov, whose last position in the company is executive vice president for operations.
Vladimir Klyavin says his appointment to the new position is not related to these events. The reshuffle was caused precisely by the expansion of the geography of responsibility of Vasily Vaganov, who chose a new successor in Russia and the CIS. The decision on a new chapter on Russia and the CIS was made in the fall of 2019, before it became known about the intentions of Insight Venture Partners to buy Veeam, Klyavin said in a conversation with TAdviser.
Also, he added, as of February, the new owners did not present any changes in Veeam's business development strategy. Everything that was planned to be done in the company in 2019, even before it became known about the deal, remains in force. This applies to product release, development, hiring, marketing.
In Russia, CIS, Ukraine, Georgia, Vladimir Klyavin will have to implement a global strategy affecting all markets in which Veeam operates and aimed at increasing revenue. In 2019, the company reported that its annual volume of orders for the first time reached $1 billion, leading to the period from May 2018 to May 2019. Now the plan is outlined to double it, reaching an indicator of $2 billion. That plan was also set before news of the deal with Insight Venture Partners, Klyavin noted.
What share Russia occupies in Veeam's global business is not disclosed in the company. But the bulk of its turnover is known to be in Europe and North America. In Russia, the company has two legal entities - Intervim and Emast Software Corporation - the total revenue of which in 2018 amounted to about 3 billion rubles. However, it is not known how much of Veeam's Russian contracts are concluded directly through its local legal entities. And the combined staff of these two companies in 2018 was about 930 people. The indicators for 2019 as of February 2020 have not yet been published.
At the first stage of development, Veeam set out to become a leader in the segment of backup and monitoring solutions for virtual servers VMware, Hyper-V and Nutanix and physical environments. A new round of development involves a focus on backup and data management solutions in hybrid cloud environments. To do this, Veeam has planned for the first half of 2020 a number of new products and updates, the key of which is Veeam Availability Suite v10 based on the Veeam backup and replication platform.
