The substation renovation program assumes that the devices will be installed at the facilities of the main and distribution networks, including 15 substations with a voltage level of 220 kilovolts and 25 substations of 110 kilovolts. Profotec optical transformers are already operating at the Tobol and Uvat substations in Siberia, as well as the first North digital substation in the Arctic.

For full-scale introduction of transformers over the country the Profotek company received 300 million rubles on expansion of production within venture financing from fondaVEB ВЭБ.РФ group Ventures. The money will be used to scale sales, increase production capacity, expand the product line, conduct R&D.

Optical transformers - as of August 2019, this is an advanced class of equipment that uses fundamentally different physical principles and technologies. Interest in such equipment is due to high accuracy and extended range of measurements, stable operation in a wide temperature range, as well as reduced maintenance costs. The results of operation show the superiority of digital measuring transformers over traditional ones due to the lack of magnetic saturation, stable operation under conditions of short-circuit currents and increased fire safety.
