2019: Installation on Bellingshausen in Antarctica of ground stations of satellite communication

On September 5, 2019 the State Corporation Rostec reported that it Ruselectronics set at the Russian station "Bellingshausen" in Antarctica ground stations of satellite communication which will help to increase the accuracy and the general reliability of GLONASS system.

According to the company, stations of satellite communication are intended for information transfer from the bezzaprosny measuring systems necessary for refining of provision of satellites in space and determinations of delays of signals from them. It helps to increase the accuracy of geoposition data in the global navigation system.

The equipment is developed and installed by specialists of NPP Radiosvyaz. JSC Informatsionnye sputnikovye sistemy of the academician M.F. Reshetnev acted as the customer.

The equipment of stations is created especially for operation in Antarctica without service staff. It is equipped with a multistage restoration system, automatic system of self-testing and ensuring uninterrupted information transfer from bezzaprosny measuring systems. The equipment and the software are completely domestic development.

A number of characteristics of the navigation system, such as accuracy of determination of coordinates and reliability of data transmission will allow to improve stations of satellite communication. For September, 2019 our specialists make installation of equipment, preliminary tests are complete. Installation of the most bezzaprosny measuring system is planned until the end of 2019. Stations of satellite communication for Antarctica were specially made in a protective dome which represents the radiotransparent shelter for an antenna post from strong gales and snow.

In Antarctica for September, 2019 five Russian zimovochny stations work. In 2018 ground satellite stations of NPP Radiosvyaz were set on Mirnyi, Novolazarevskaya and Progress bases. The fifth Antarctic station constantly changes the provision because of moving ices therefore installation of equipment at it is not supposed.
