2019: Announcement of modular Toughbook 55
On September 9, 2019, Panasonic introduced the protected Toughbook 55 laptop, which has a modular design that allows you to quickly replace all kinds of components.
If you do not contact the service center, you can install a second storage device, memory module, video card, fingerprint scanner, and additional ports. In addition, a broken keyboard can be independently replaced.
The device complies with the military standards MIL-STD810H, it has an increased degree of protection against penetration from dust and water splashes (IP53), enhanced protection against falls from a height of 91 cm and operates in an extreme temperature range from − 20 ° C to + 60 ° C.
The battery life of the laptop is 20 hours, and in the case of using the second battery during an emergency ("hot") replacement , the indicator doubles.
The laptop is equipped with an 8th generation Intel Core i5 vPro processor, 8 GB of RAM (64 GB maximum ) and a 256 GB hard drive (512 GB and 1 TB optional HDD).
The set of interfaces includes two USB 3.1 ports, one USB 3.1 Typc C, HDMI, LAN, a micro SDXC connector and the option to connect an additional antenna. Body is made of magnesium alloy.
A capacitive touch screen recognizes the simultaneous touch of up to 10 fingers ( with or without gloves ), and for accurate writing you can use a stylus with a thin (2 mm) tip. The display has a diagonal of 14 inches, a brightness of 1000 nits and a resolution of up to 1920 x 1080 pixels. The keyboard is supplemented with backlight.
The laptop provides identification protection using an additional fingerprint reader, smart card reader, contactless smart card reader facial recognition Windows and Hello by means of an additional front camera.
The Panasonic Toughbook 55 model will go on sale in November 2019. Its cost will start at $2099. Module prices will be announced later.[1]
