In the middle of September, 2019 the Philips Healthcare Informatics company which is a part of Philips won the contract of the U.S. Department of Defense for $400 million. The winner of the tender will provide to the Pentagon the IT system for storage and transfer of digital medical images (PACS).
The fixed price contract is signed for five years and can be prolonged for twice bigger term if the parties are pleasant each other. It is known that Philips was necessary to compete in about ten other offers before the Pentagon selected the company for signing of the contract. It is supposed that the new IT system of Philips will be used by land armies, the Navies, the Air Force, the sea body and the federal civil agencies in the areas located as within a continental part of the USA, and abroad. The Ministry of Defence expects that the ready project will be submitted on September 12, 2024.
It is not the first contract of Philips with the Pentagon in 2019. In March of Philips Healthcare signed with the U.S. Department of Defense the contract for $450 million for development and service of observation systems for patients. In July the U.S. Department of Defense selected subsidiary company Philips, Remote Diagnostic Technologies, as the producer of devices for this observation system. Terms of the contract also meant five years' cooperation with possible prolongation for 5 years. United States Army, the fleet, the Air Force, marine corps and the federal civil agencies will use a new system.
It is profitable to producers and developers of the medical equipment to work with the Ministry of Defence not only because it means the profitable contract with the government. In the summer of 2019 regulatory bodies of the USA and the Ministry of Defence signed the memorandum according to which FDA will consider applications for statement/licensing of the medical products and systems connected with the Pentagon in an expedited manner.[1]
