2019: Implementation of a single platform of backup

The Commvault company announced on September 30, 2019 project completion of implementation of a single platform of backup for Uralsib bank.

The IT service of Uralsib bank is concentrated on increase in operational efficiency, creation of the failsafe IT infrastructure meeting the modern requirements. Before implementing solution from Commvault in geographically distributed network of bank branches four backup systems for different tasks were used, there was no uniform backup strategy and data recovery of applications that demanded from IT personnel of additional labor costs, increased risk of errors, recovery time and did not guarantee accomplishment of SLA.

The Commvault command managed to prove that for bank storage of the most effectively backup copies on standard servers HPE using Commvault software. Implementation took place in several stages – at first in Moscow office, then in a branch network. As a result of project implementation backup systems from several vendors which functionally suited bank were replaced, but were difficult in operation as a single system.

We were going to use new approaches to programming and virtualization at the level of the operating system. The solution which supports management of applications in environments with containerization support was required. Commvault conformed to these requirements, and, the main thing, answered our strategy of centralization of a backup system, – told in IT service of Uralsib bank.

According to the results of the project the bank received a geographically distributed backup system, but at the same time completely transparent for all branches. Branches can monitor utilization of resources and licenses, a system is controlled both for one, and for several jobs.

Commvault helped us to replace four backup systems with a uniform product, having resolved issues of centralization and management, and having allowed to save on licenses considerably. A single platform more flexible and simple in management. Earlier four persons worked with software for backup, now for effective management one specialist who solves more interesting analytical challenges suffices, and routine functions are automated by Commvault. In process of growth of amounts of data and development of services we are going to expand cooperation with vendor, in particular, we consider the possibility to organize backup of user machines, – noted in IT service of Uralsib bank.

The Uralsib bank solved a difficult problem of creation of a geographically distributed system of data protection of applications, users and files. It was important to improve the cost of ownership and operation of SRK, to make this system capable to answer tasks of business and at the same time to replace several existing backup systems. All this managed to be reached creation of the solution Commvault Data Platform, with a single system of data management, automation of data storage on disks and tapes and transparent flexible politicians of storage and also support of the perspective systems such as OpenStack, PostgreSQL and others, – Ivan Zasokhlin, the chief representative of Commvault in Russia and the CIS noted.[1]
