Microsoft and Sberbank will teach robots to move bags with money. VIDEO

On October 15 Sberbank and Microsoft announced start of the program of joint surveys in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. Microsoft says that the first in the history their research center in Redmond (USA) will open doors for the Russian company. Partners will work together on creation of algorithms of artificial intelligence for control of robots in banking sector.

Research engineers of Sberbank will work in Redmond together with the colleagues from the Microsoft Research center. The Russian office Microsoft specified TAdviser that specialists of Sberbank will go there to a business trip. The combined team will look for optimal methods of control of robotic manipulators on the basis of the Microsoft AI platform. It integrates machine learning, in particular, a training method with a reinforcement, and simulation modeling in the virtual worlds for creation of the autonomous AI systems capable to work in the real world.

In a project deliverable it is going to improve a management system for the robotic complex created for performance improvement of work in the course of recalculation of coins. It is scientific development of laboratory of robotics of Sberbank.

A system consists of the manipulator, video cameras and a special gripping device. It is designed to facilitate work and to ensure safety of the operator of the cash and collector center when unloading bags with coins from the mobile cart. It will lead to increase in efficiency of bank, expect in Sberbank and Microsoft. One operator manually now unloads hundreds of kilograms of coins for one change, specified TAdviser in Sberbank.

The bank also emphasized that it is not about use of ready development of Microsoft, and about the program of joint surveys which will allow to create new methods of manipulation with physical entities for performance improvement of work in the industry and the service industry using artificial intelligence technologies.

The head of Sberbank German Gref noted that Sberbank undertook leadership in artificial intelligence in the Digital Economy program and therefore it is very important to make use of the best world experience for it in this sphere. The bank looks for methods for the most effective use of own developments and patents not only at solving of tasks of bank, but also for implementation of strategic federal initiatives in this area.

The Russian office Microsoft told TAdviser that joint work of the companies in Microsoft Research is in general very rare practice. It is performed according to the program of cooperation with the scientific organizations and educational institutions worldwide.

We are sure that the number of such important joint projects with the Russian companies in the field of AI will grow, - added to the companies.

In addition to practical value for Sberbank, successful results of joint surveys will form the basis of scientific publications on practical application of artificial intelligence, calculate in Microsoft. Training and improvement of intellectual algorithms will allow to expand the field of their use and to find new scenarios of implementation as well in other spheres, believe in the companies.
