IKOM of Russia (Russian national committee of the International council of the museums)

IKOM of Russia is the Russian national committee of the International council of the museums (IKOM). The organization serves the interests of the museums and museum professionals, its activity is directed to protection and promoting of natural and cultural heritage. IKOM for October, 2019 integrates more than 40,000 members in 141 countries of the world and also has the highest consultative status of category "A" in UNESCO and in Economic and social council of the UN. IKOM of Russia for October, 2019 totals more than 1200 members from different regions of the Russian Federation. In the activity IKOM of Russia considers need of development of the most different directions of museum case: since a problem of storage and restoration, finishing with questions of creation of modern exposures, uses of digital technologies, the analysis of data bulks. IKOM of Russia actively participates in discussion and preparation of legislative initiatives and bylaws in the field of preserving of cultural heritage.

History

2019: The memorandum of cooperation with Microsoft for the innovative development of the museum industry

On October 21, 2019 Microsoft reported that together with the Russian committee of the International council of the museums (IKOM of Russia) signed the memorandum of cooperation.

Among the key directions of interaction development of the strategic plan of the innovative development of the museum industry, organization of events for expert dialog and also development of methodical materials on use of modern technologies in museum activity are mentioned. Among them: cloud solutions for creation of digital doubles of exposure, a blockchain for determination of authenticity of exhibits, possibilities of artificial intelligence in all fields of activity of the museum (from virtual guides before forecasting of number of visitors and a profile of audience), technologies of the virtual and mixed reality, including for remote access and involvement of youth.

Microsoft was a part of Council for digital development at IKOM of Russia and in return will provide technical expertize and the innovative solutions, global resources of corporation for involvement of specialists from the largest museums of the world and also will take part in development of educational materials and researches of the museum industry.

More than 60 years of IKOM in Russia is responsible for formation of professional standards for the museums, implementing the best world practices. For October, 2019 an important task for us is involvement of the companies experts in the field of high technologies therefore we are sure that our cooperation with Microsoft will well influence development of all museum industry in general, noted Alexander Sholokhov, the president of IKOM of Russia

Participation in the project will become one of crucial elements of a complex of initiatives in the field of education and culture which Microsoft implements many years in Russia. In Russia interest in history and art is traditionally high, and we want to make experience of visit of the Russian museums by brighter, and knowledge acquisition process – fascinating.
