2019: Announcement

On October 23, 2019 one of the world's largest producers of breast cameras for police officers — Axon company — released the first in such class device capable to recognize the state registration numbers of vehicles.

The ALPR technology (automated license plate recognition — about engl. automatic license plate recognition) was added to the camera Axon Fleet 3. It allows law enforcement agencies to obtain quickly information on the car from the database without need to enter its number manually.

Police officers apply ALPR to position fix of machines during investigation of crimes, however the specialized equipment, for example, infrared cameras costs much. Equipment of one machine an ALRP system can cost $20 thousand, the CEO and the founder of Axon Rick Smith says. According to him, because of the high price of the solution for reading of car numbers infrequently are established on machines.

Breast cameras of police officers began to recognize numbers of a car

Axon tried to solve this problem, having offered instead of infrared technology the system of recognition on the basis of record of wide angle video and image processing by means of artificial intelligence. Such solution implemented in Axon Fleet 3 allows to save up to 90% even taking into account regular payments for use of ALPR base.

The cheap system of recognition of car numbers will be used in breast cameras and the Axon video recorders. The price of such device will be about $1000.

Now we can execute reading of license plate number, using video flows from inner tubes as actually it is just about the program for the video recorder. Also it is not necessary to buy the whole specialized system — Rick Smith emphasized.
