Breast cameras in Britain obliged to carry court ushers

In the middle of July, 2019 the government of Great Britain decided that court ushers are obliged to carry breast cameras. The Ministry of Justice stated that this step which affects only England and Wales so far should help to protect debtors from "intimidation and aggression" to which police officers sometimes resort.

In 2014 debt collection in Great Britain underwent serious reform, but participants of a campaign consider that it is not necessary to be limited to it. The Citizens Advice organization which is free of charge advising citizens according to legal issues put in the forefront numerous problems, including work of court ushers who refuse to give citizens information, levy the mezzanine board and break powers.

Within fight against these crimes the government is going to issue breast cameras to 2.5 thousand court ushers which collect the various debts including connected with municipal taxes, penalties for traffic offense and debt for lease. Law enforcement officers will also carry cameras, but this measure does not concern court ushers of district court yet. The Ministry of Justice of Great Britain claims that it will use the best efforts as soon as possible to supply police officers with all necessary equipment.

Nevertheless participants of Citizens Advice consider that cameras alone will not be able to change current situation, and urge to attract independent experts to consideration of similar affairs. Citizens Advice noted that cameras of court ushers will not help to protect the rights of people until use of these cameras is regulated by independent bodies. Creation of such group of experts should be the next step of the government, citizens consider.[1]
