In November, 2019 Tunisia announced release of the E-Dinar cryptocurrency for which the technology basis developed by the Russian company Universa Blockchain was selected.
The new currency will be provided with paper money, and transition to electronic dinar will be able to be performed both legal, and individuals.
It is noted that the release of E-Dinar will not influence domestic monetary policy of Tunisia. Local authorities say that before full introduction of an asset to turnover all perspectives of its application will be studied. Also it is going to release a number of applications for storage of cryptocurrency and performing transactions with it.
According to the founder and the CEO of Universa Alexander Borodich, electronic notes cannot be forged - each such note, as well as paper option, it is protected by cryptography, at it as well as at the paper fellow, there are digital watermarks. And production of such note costs approximately by 100 times cheaper, than expenditure of paint, paper, the electric power for operation of the press, he noted.
Borodich expects that the digital currency will change work of private banks. All physical money will remain in the central bank whereas commercial banks only provide services and to compete for quality of the offered services.
Since November 7 in the territory of Tunisia about 2 thousand booths in which citizens will be able to fill up the digital purse are available. At an initial stage they will make payment via the browser in the smartphone, mobile application will appear later. It will be possible to send digital money or make purchase, having scanned the QR code.
It is supposed that the new Tunisian digital currency will become an alternative to paper notes and will allow to reduce turnover of the last around the world[1]
