In the middle of November, 2019 the U.S. Department of Defense announced that Cardinal Health and Owens & Minor were among the companies which won contracts with the government for the amount exceeding $1 billion.
The Cardinal Health company is the second in value military supplier in states Ohio and Illinois. It signed the contract with the Pentagon for the amount of $2.25 billion for delivery of surgical products for the different military industries, having extended thereby the validity of the previous contract for 2.5 years. Operation of the contract expires on June 6, 2022, but if cooperation is successful, then, according to the press release of the Ministry of Defence, the contract can be prolonged for three more additional 30-month periods for production and distribution of required account medical materials worldwide.
The contract of Cardinal Health does not determine exact order size, however includes service of medical parts in 33 different states. According to the press release, the company will service air forces, army, the fleet, marine corps, coastal protection and the federal civil agencies. Generally the company delivers surgical tools and supplies though her contracts also include supply of some unique drugs.
Other company, Owens & Minor, won the contract for deliveries of medical supplies for $1.125 billion Initially the agreement covers 30 months of service, but also can be three times prolonged for 30 additional months. As well as in a case about Cardinal Health, the fixed price contract and indefinite production volume assumes supply of medical materials of the Air Force, to army, the fleet, marines, the coast guard and federal civil agencies.[1]
