In the middle of November, 2019 robots of LG Electronics company under the name Cloi began to be used in hospital of Seoul National University within the research on optimization of medical care.
The South Korean producer of electronics provided to the children's center of the Seoul hospital of 25 robots for entertainment of children. All of them will be placed in different places, including in intensive care units and operating rooms. Testing will last three months.
The purpose of implementation of robots consists in providing emotional support to children who are afraid of the new environment and suffer from restrictions, first of all due to the lack of freedom of movement. It is supposed that robots will be able to create more pleasant and cheerful atmosphere in which little patients will feel more comfortably.
LG Cloi is supplied with the 5-inch LCD screen and the Clova platform on the basis of artificial intelligence of production Naver. In library of each robot 900 children's books from 70 Korean publishers are submitted, but also, the robot can reproduce the music, games, audiobooks and video offered Naver TV.
LG and Seoul National University decided to continue cooperation after testing and already announced intention to jointly develop new services. At the moment the role of Cloi robots is limited to emotional support, but creators want to add to it functions which could help work of nurses and doctors. Perhaps, in the near future their developments will allow to use Cloi robots for video chats between employees, as translators for foreign patients and also for providing video instructions to parents before different procedures.
The company hoped that robots will become tutors and friends for children.[1]
