History

2022: Acquisition of 49% stake by Marubeni

Konica Minolta and Marubeni Corporation have signed an investment agreement aimed at supporting the digital transformation of nursing. This was announced on July 12, 2022 by Konica Minolta. As part of the partnership, Marubeni acquires a 49 percent stake in Konica Minolta QOL Solutions. Another 51% of the business will be controlled by Konica Minolta.

Under the terms of the agreement, companies will jointly solve the social problems of elderly Japanese residents who need additional medical attention, using the capabilities and assets of Marubeni. They will also launch a package of patient care solutions on world markets according to Japanese standards in order to make significant changes in this area.

Marubeni Corporation is one of the Japanese and global trading companies. Its head offices are located in Tokyo and Osaka. Marubeni's range is very large, from clothing and food to steel and chemical materials.

Konica Minolta QOL specializes in solutions for organizing surveillance for the sick and elderly. They increase the effectiveness of the work of the medical staff and the quality of the assistance provided. Solving the various problems of the Japanese nursing industry associated with the rapid aging of the population, the company helps elderly Japanese maintain and improve the standard of daily life.

Thus, the company has developed the HitomeQ Care Support solution, combining image detection technologies with medical knowledge and experience. With it, Konica Minolta supports all business processes in care institutions: from analyzing existing problems and introducing digital transformation into everyday work to using data in evidence-based and personalized services.

HitomeQ Care Support uses a sensor mounted on the ceiling of the room to monitor the patient's daily behavior. He recognizes and analyzes his movements and sends a notification with video recordings to the smartphone of a medical professional. This helps not only to monitor the safety of the patient, but also to detect even minor changes in his condition and provide appropriate care. Based on the data obtained, health facilities can provide new services and address the shortage of nursing and nursing staff, which is becoming increasingly serious.

From 2021, Konica Minolta QOL distributes HitomeQ Care Support by subscription, which reduces the initial cost of implementing the system and encourages more medical organizations to digitally transform and improve operational efficiency.

Konica Minolta and Marubeni plan to join forces with all caregivers as well as a large range of partners in various industries to maximize the quality of life of people in need of care.
