2020: The announcement of the solution for connection of devices 4G and 5G through the segmented network

On February 25, 2020 the company Nokia announced support of functions of end-to-end network segmentation for technologies 4G and 5G. The solution of Nokia will support connection of devices 4G and 5G through the segmented network for implementation applications working in private and public clouds. This solution will appear in the market in the summer of 2020.

The solution of Nokia will allow operators to begin business development on the basis of segmentation of networks (network slicing) with LTE technologies and a 5G. The functionality of segmentation can be implemented only at the expense of a software update in the existing LTE networks and 5G networks of nonautonomous architecture (non-standalone architecture, NSA), and afterwards and in 5G networks of autonomous architecture (standalone architecture, SA). The compatibility of functions of segmentation in LTE networks and a 5G will allow operators to implement new mobile services in the existing service areas, claim in Nokia.

According to the developer, the solution allows to organize the isolated network tunnels through a radio access network, a transport network and reference network for connection of certain devices to certain service platforms in private and public networks and clouds. For the first time in solutions of Nokia for radio access networks there were segmentation functions considering requirements to capacity, a delay and security for different classes of users and services. The same functionality is maintained in solutions of Nokia for transport and reference networks and also in control systems, managements and implementations the politician of providing services. The solution supports all devices 4G and 5G and works in the multivendor network environment.

The solution of Nokia for network segmentation was developed together with large operators – A1 and Telia. It creates ample opportunities for business development at corporate customers and for implementation of Internet of Things, the fixed wireless access, applications and services considering features of content. This solution supports services which require creation of certain chains of network elements and also implements safety features, supports of quality and traffic management. At the same time the complete transparency and compatibility of services between 4G networks and a 5G is provided. Besides, segmentation of private wireless networks opens the road for new network features and applications in such areas as monitoring and automation of crucial processes, consider in Nokia.

As of March, 2020 Nokia carries already out pilot tests of functions of network segmentation 4G/5G at some customers using the SDN controller and the controller of segmentation of a transport network. In tests the orkestrator of Nokia is used for cloud packet networks (it provides automation of start of network) and the software solution SD-WAN which provides to private and public cloud services the managed segments of 4G networks/5G. The solutions Assurance Nokia check parameters of performance (KPI) of each segment within functionality of Nokia on orchestration of E2E services.
