2020: The Mesh-router for Wi-fi Beacon 6 networks
On March 19, 2020 the Nokia company announced expansion of a product family for the Wi-fi home networks. In this family there was a Beacon 6 router which will help operators to increase quality of the user services. Using Wi-fi technology 6 it increases data transfer rate in comparison with the previous generations of Wi-fi networks by 40%.
To increase quality of the user services in home networks, Nokia reduces cross-network delay using the solutions developed by researchers of Bell Labs Nokia. According to the producer, the Beacon 6 Nokia device sharply increases performance of the Wi-fi home networks and provides to operators the simple solution in installation which supports the applications sensitive to a delay (including network games) and works at gigabit speeds. All this is important for formation of complex positive experience of the users working in 5G networks.
"Possibilities of 5G networks will strongly change experience of users and waiting of customers. The combination of Wi-fi technologies 6, a low delay and high performance of the house mesh-solutions of Wi-fi integrated to 5G networks will allow operators to create a single communication framework for applications and solutions of new generation", 'Ben Wood, the senior researcher from CCS Insight company noted' |
According to Nokia for March, 2020 more than 25% of households are connected to Wi-fi networks. In houses about 5 billion Wi-fi devices are installed. These are home computers, smart TVs and other smart home devices. To cope with such volume, operators and end users begin to purchase the solutions supporting Wi-fi standard 6 which increases data transfer rate in densely populated areas at least by 4 times and reduces cross-network delay by 75%.
According to the statement of the producer, Beacon 6 is Wi - Fi - the device including a number of the technologies working as a unit. Among them:
- support of the Wi-fi technology 6 increasing the speed and performance and reducing a delay in Wi-fi network using modulation of OFDMA which is used in 5G networks and increases number of the devices which are at the same time working with access point;
- support of Wi-fi Certified EasyMesh technology and full compatibility with the products Wi-fi Certified EasyMesh from other companies that facilitates installation; the mesh-controller of Nokia as much as possible increases performance of the Wi-fi home networks using control functions by the choice of channels and supports of the best of the methods of fight against noises which are available in the market;
- the innovations developed in Bell Labs Nokia laboratories directed to reduction of cross-network delay include an algorithm of PI2 which should appear in the market in the second half of 2020; this algorithm steadily reduces a delay even in the conditions of overflow of network. PI2 reduces a delay from hundreds of milliseconds to 20 milliseconds. Further using L4S technology in reference network the delay can be reduced to less than 5 milliseconds. As of March, 2020 L4S undergoes process of standardization in IETF. This technology is based on innovations of Bell Labs Nokia which allow to reduce the fluctuations of a delay which are negatively affecting quality of work of game applications and functions of virtual reality.
As noted in Nokia, emergence of the Beacon 6 devices and innovations reducing cross-network delay will play an important role in quality improvement of services of a 5G for home users. Beacon 6 Nokia will help operators to use high speed and with a performance Of Wi-fi 6 for unloading of 5G networks for the transfer account of mobile traffic in Wi-fi network. As a result the subscriber connected to mobile network 5G will be able to go out of the car and to pass into the house without communication break. It is especially important for those operators who want to release expensive frequencies of a 5G for more profitable services Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things.
"The solution Beacon 6 Nokia will play a fundamental role in expansion of opportunities of the Wi-fi home networks. It will provide support of functionality and performance of a 5G throughout network. Using Wi-fi technology 6, the Beacon 6 Nokia device considerably will increase the speed and performance of the Wi-fi home networks and will forever change a situation both for subscribers, and for operators. And houses, both at office, and in public places we will be able to unload mobile networks 5G, transferring their traffic in Wi-fi network 6. As a result distribution of technology 5G will accelerate, operators will cut down the expenses, and users will receive high quality of a 5G in all network segments", Sandra Motley, the president noted business of group of the fixed Nokia networks |
"New Zealand uses the fastest Internet connections in the world thanks to wide circulation of FTTH Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) technology. Relying on this success, we extend services 10G GPON under the HyperFibre trademark. We also like possibilities of Wi-fi technology 6 which is capable to expand experience of end users sharply. Laboratory tests of the solution Beacon 6 in our fiber-optical network showed that data transfer rate in the wireless networks can exceed 1 Gbps. This technology opens a way to wide use of our fiber optic networks for support of high-quality wireless services of a 5G in the territory of New Zealand", 'J.B. Russelot (JB Rousselot), the chief executive officer of Chorus New Zealand noted' |
