2020: Kyocera purchased Showa Optronics from NEC
At the end of March, 2020 Kyocera announced acquisition of Showa Optronics at NEC corporation. Under the terms of the transaction, Kyocera redeems all shares of the manufacture of optical components from NEC and becomes the owner of a 93.53 percent share.
It is expected that on June 1, 2020 Showa Optronics will become division of Kyocera and will be renamed into Kyocera Showa Optronics.
Thanks to this transaction Kyocera expects to become leading manufacturer of optical components, having increased product assortment in the laser market and maximizing synergy effect thanks to consolidation of technologies of the companies and also using a global network of sales and production capacities of Kyocera for further expansion of the business in the field of optical components.
In this market of Kyocera releases lenses of small and large diameters on the basis of various materials. They are applied in automobile, office, medical and factory equipment. The company entered the market of optical solutions in 1983, and in the 2016th strengthened positions in it thanks to Melles Griot acquisition — producer of lenses of large diameter and high-precision lenses for the equipment intended for industrial automation. Absorbing Showa Optronics, the Kyocera company expands the production capabilities for satisfaction of the growing demand.[1]
