2020: Japan began to offer investors digital bonds on a blockchain
At the end of March, 2020 the research institute of Nomura offered investors the Japan's first digital bonds on the basis of a blockchain. For this purpose the institute and Nomura Holdings company created Boostry joint venture for development of the platform of the tokenized assets under the name Ibet. They released two types of bonds, one of which was considered as the bond of a digital asset.
As a rule, the release of corporate bonds is expensive process. However use of a blockchain facilitates and reduces the price of this procedure. Though AI of Nomura for the first time in Japan offered investors digital bonds, the blockchain is actively used for bond issue worldwide, including the World Bank, Sberbank and also Societe Generale and Santander which used public blockchain platforms.
Besides, the Institute of the market researches Nomura announced creation of new research consortium which will specialize in use of technologies of a blockchain in financial markets, including offers of security tokens (STO). For studying of the aforesaid problems the group is going to gather scientists and market participants, such as issuers, asset managers, settlement agencies and other financial intermediaries. The complete research group includes Anderson, Mori & Tomotsune, JCB, Daiichi Life Insurance, Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance, Nishimura & Asahi, NTT, Nomura Asset Management, Institute of market researches of the capital Nomura, Nomura Securities, Nomura Trust and Banking, Boostry Research institute, Fujitsu, Mitsui and Mitsui Fudosan.
Nomura is also a participant of other Japanese group devoted to studying of a blockchain in the finance application - the Consortium on studying of security tokens created by bank Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. This organization also includes the companies Mitsubishi Accenture, KPMG and Securitize.[1]
