2025: The court ordered the hospital to pay the patient 170 thousand rubles for nerve damage by a surgeon without qualifications

At the end of October 2025, it became known that the court of the Leningrad district of the Kaliningrad region partially satisfied the claim of a local resident to a medical institution, where he underwent an unsuccessful operation. The 47-year-old victim received serious harm to health while performing the procedure in the Kaliningrad Regional Hospital.

The case file says that the plaintiff is Svyatoslav Mukhin. The defendants are the State Budgetary Health Institution (GBUZ) Kaliningrad Regional Clinical Hospital (KOKB), the Property Agency of the Kaliningrad Region and the Ministry of Health of the region. The government of the Kaliningrad region was involved as a third party.

It was established that in the summer of 2024, the patient underwent diagnostic surgery in the department of thoracic surgery of the specified medical institution. During the procedure, the diaphragmatic nerve was damaged, which the man learned about during a subsequent examination from another doctor. The metropolitan forensic examination confirmed the fact of harm to the patient's health - these conclusions were taken into account by the court when making a verdict.

According to the representative of the plaintiff, referring to the information on the formation of the doctor who performed the operation, he did not have the proper qualifications of a thoracic surgeon: his diploma of vocational training was canceled. At the same time, the lawyer of the regional hospital said that the doctor who performed the operation at the KOKB no longer works. Its new place of employment is the Cancer Center.

As part of the lawsuit, the injured man demanded monetary compensation for harm to health in the amount of 1 million rubles. However, the court recovered 170 thousand rubles from the regional hospital. The victim's side reportedly intends to appeal the decision.^[1]
