2020: Digitization and restoration of registers of births of the Vladimir, Ryazan and Tula provinces

More than 1000 registers of births of the Vladimir, Ryazan and Tula provinces which are stored in Central state archive of the Moscow region were digitized within the three-year project, and then restored by specialists Elar. On May 27, 2020 Elar reported about it.

The Elar corporation carried out works on digitization of archive documents since the end of 2017. In total during project implementation 22,804,626 sheets of archive documents were transferred to an electronic form 175,402 units of storage. Including registers of births were digitized.

The registers of births representing set of records about a baptism (birth), a wedding (defects), burial (death) were kept in Russia with the beginning of the 18th century till 1918 (in some areas till 1921) then their functions undertook sections of ZAGS of local executive authorities. In Central state archive of the Moscow region registers of births of the Vladimir, Ryazan and Tula spiritual consistories for 1864-1913 are stored. On set of a number of criteria, for example, time of creation and informative value, they were referred to especially important documents.

Digitization of registers of births allowed to exclude them from turnover, not to issue to users for work in the reading room of archive. Electronic images of registers of births are placed on computers in the reading room of archive and also in the information system "Archives of the Moscow Region", explains the chief of the Head archive department of the Moscow region Lyudmila Kondratova.

Restoration works of especially important documents became the next stage. About 30 specialists Elar worked on restoration of registers of births.

Registers of births required carrying out special works, in particular, of microbiological processing of the pages struck with a fungus, mechanical recovery (straightening of sheets), speaks Lyudmila Kondratova.

Also specialists Elar made dismantling of covers, then analysis of blocks on a notebook, - from backs it was necessary to delete glue and old threads, sheet restoration, building of a back, production of a cover.

Registers of births are a part of Archive fund of the Russian Federation and therefore by determination are important documents and are subject to permanent (eternal) storage. Therefore it was important not only to create their digital copies, but also to restore originals, adds Lyudmila Kondratova.
