DirectHit

DirectHit is the search system which algorithm is based on accounting of number of clicking the link of a resource with its description. I.e. by some criteria there are documents, and the person, clicking on the link in the list of search results, passes to the website, at the same time "voting" for it. So not the popularity of the document, but correctness of its name and description is estimated.

It approach gives some elimination of spammers. Thus the person sends search query to the search system, and it in reply issues the list of results. Let's assume that on the first page there are normal search results (there are a normal name and the description inspiring trust) and spam (in the name and the description a key word to the detriment of informational content of this field is often used). Naturally, the person most likely will click on the "correct" link. If most of people does also, then eventually the "wrong" link falls below and below and leaves a viewing field.

Search results of DirectHit are used rather often by other search services. So, HotBot shows in the results at first the first 9 of the most popular (on the same search query, from the point of view of DirectHit) the websites, in MSN there is a link "Top 10 Most Popular Popular Sites for line of a request", in Lycos the first 4 results on the first page "4 Web Sites selected based on user selection traffic".
