MESA-11

MESA-11 is a function model of MES systems. At the same time MES is understood as not the single system implementing the corresponding functionality, and a set of the systems exchanging among themselves data for the solution of the tasks facing the enterprise.

Relationship of the PERA and MESA-11 models.

Is expansion of the PERA model. The main difference between models is only in what in the sphere of responsibility of the intra shop systems is involved much more functions, than in PERA. It was created by the Manufacturing Execution Systems Association (MESA) international consortium and it is published in 1994.

Functions of MES systems

According to this model 11 basic functions implemented by MES systems are selected.

  1. Status monitoring and resource allocation (RAS) — tracking of a status and the history of the started transactions on the equipment, maintaining the historical database about a condition of equipment.
  2. Operational/detailed planning (ODS) — the calculation of production schedules based on priorities, attributes and product characteristics.
  3. Scheduling of production (DPU) — control of accomplishment of technology transactions with tracking of physical movement of products (procurements, batches) from the machine to the machine in real time.
  4. Process management (PM) — management of the planned technology transactions, condition monitoring of processes and their separate indicators, decision support by the operator on the basis of the set business rules.
  5. Personnel management (LM) — maintaining the reference book of employees with preserving of information on their qualification, certificates, the access levels, the executed technology transactions.
  6. Collecting and data storage (DCA) — maintaining base of historical data on processes, resources, materials, personnel.
  7. Maintaining a DB of historical information (PTG) — preserving of data on planned and actual targets of use of raw materials and materials and also data on accomplishment of technology transactions.
  8. Efficiency analysis (PA) — providing analytical information (reports, diagrams, "meter panels") on the basis of all MES of data which are available in a DB.
  9. Management of a maintenance and repair (MM) — management of maintenance, scheduled and operational repairs of the equipment, equipment, instrumentations.
  10. Product quality control (QM) — implementation of procedures of statistical quality control, identification and warning of negative trends on the basis of historical and continuous data. Providing procedures of entrance and output quality control of raw materials, materials and finished goods.
  11. Management of documents (DOC) — support of intra shop document flow.
