2020: Implementation of the Orange IoT-platform

McConnell Dowell, infrastructure construction company, selected Orange Business Services for development of the scalable and configured platform of Internet of Things (Internet of Things, IoT). With its help it is possible to collect and provide in real time information on work of building sites, for example, about use on them heavy machinery, the equipment and materials. It will give the chance to make the weighed decisions for increase in effectiveness of work, cost reduction or saving of time. On July 15, 2020 reported about it in Orange Business Services.

The construction industry faces serious calls for business and technologies. It is the shortage of the equipment and a skilled labor force, reduction of project deadlines and growth of costs for deployment of infrastructure. Thanks to Internet of Things building sites will be able to use data in real time for monitoring and the solution of these problems, consider in Orange Business Services.

Orange and McConnell practiced joint work approach, studying scenarios of application of the platform at all development stages: from the idea before implementation. As a result of Orange created the flexible and scalable IoT-platform for collecting, the analysis and information visualization to pay attention to digitization of "manual" transactions and document flow on the building site. To this McConnell Dowell worked only with reports which were made by employees manually. On it a lot of time was spent, and information in such reports could be contradictory.

The IoT-platform from Orange allows McConnell Dowell to work with the various devices and sensors collecting data on the environment and also to estimate the level of use of the equipment and materials on building sites. Collected primary information is transferred to office of the company on network of low power consumption LoRa (LPWAN) for the analysis and comparison to other data. By means of control panels the McConnell Dowell company in real time collects data of telemetry, such as movement of machines and monitoring of the mobile systems, giving the chance to project teams to estimate productivity of use of mechanisms in general and to report on use of the separate systems.

McConnell Dowell will also be able to trace logistics of materials, such as concrete panels, from the plant of the producer to a building site. On the building site the company can identify each separate panel that allows to avoid obviously its wrong installation, correction of this error with the subsequent delay of the project. It is going to expand scenarios of use of technology and to involve them on new building sites.

"Expenses on infrastructure and delivery of services increase by 8% annually. Good project management directly affects effectiveness of our business. We are focused on implementation of technologies in our processes. For July, 2020 we together with Orange Business Services work on creation of solutions which can be applied in different regions with different scenarios of use. Together we create additional opportunities for business, using flexible, scalable intelligent solutions which increase the business ideas",
