2021: Siberia creates a single supercomputer computing network for ₽5,9 billion

The cost of supercomputer centers of the first, second and third levels in Novosibirsk, Omsk and Tomsk is estimated by experts at 5.9 billion rubles, excluding fiber costs. This was reported at the end of October 2021 at the Federal Research Center for Information and Computing Technologies (FIC IVT), which oversees the implementation of the SNC INPUT project (Siberian National Center for High-Performance Computing, Data Processing and Storage).

This project involves the creation of a single infrastructure of supercomputing centers. The Siberian Federal District has become one of the pilot macro-regions for the implementation of the program. SNC INPUT Project

By August 2021, as part of the creation of a single supercomputer computer network in Siberia, its first node was formed: Novosibirsk - Tomsk - Omsk. Each of the regions will localize its own segment of the future network: in Novosibirsk, a supercomputer data center of the first level, in Tomsk - a data center of the second level, reserve for Novosibirsk, and in Omsk - one or two data centers of the third level, which will solve auxiliary problems.

One of the areas of work of the Siberian National Center for High Performance Computing will be the use of computer modeling and analysis methods big data to solve the problems of the scientific center of virology and biotechnology "" and Vector. In Rospotrebnadzor particular, it is implied to search for trends in the development of infections, develop strategies for the treatment of viral diseases and prevent their spread.[1]

2020: Getting Started

July 17, 2020 it became known about the creation Novosibirsk in the Siberian National Center for High Performance Computing and Data Processing (SNC VOD). This is a joint project of the Federal Research Center (FIC) of Information and Computing Technologies (IVT) SB RAS Institute of Public-Private Planning and the State System Integrator of the Voskhod Research Institute, subordinate to it. As the executive secretary of the interdepartmental working group FIC IVT SB RAS for the development of regional supercomputer and telecommunications infrastructure Olga Dorokhova told TASS, SNC VOD will become a pilot project of a network of domestic protected supercomputer centers with high speed of processing and transmitting information that have their own storage of large data arrays.

Key users of the supercomputer center in Novosibirsk will be the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology "Vector" of Rospotrebnadzor (HSC Vektor VB), as well as the Collective Use Center "Siberian Ring Photon Source" (CCP "SKIF"), which in the future should become a generator of a large amount of data. To do this, the supercomputer center will be located near key users.

The Siberian National Center for High Performance Computing, Processing and Storage began to be developed in 2018 as one of the projects of the development plan of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center "Akademgorodok 2.0." In terms of computing resources and storage volumes, SNC INPUT should take a leading position in Russia, and its supercomputers should enter the top 50 in terms of performance in the world.

The main tasks that will be solved in this center are related to digital twins, artificial intelligence and big data (Big Data).[2]
