PTC creates for US Navy of digital doubles of the fleet for tracking of deliveries of spare parts

At the end of July, 2020 it became known that US Navy will monitor deliveries of spare parts on the platform of "digital twins", creating virtual copies of these parts. The PTC company acted as the developer of the corresponding software.

The platform will allow Naval Forces to use augmented reality for viewing images of spare parts and the ships in a three-dimensional type. Besides, also the details concerning repair and maintenance will be available to employees given for tracking of parts. The management of Naval Forces hopes that centralization given using digital doubles will reduce their redundancy and will provide easier access to information for bigger number of users.

Naval Forces already tested the software of PTC and expand its use. The new platform will be available to more than 15,000 seamen, civilians and contractors. By estimates, the navy is ready to invest in the project in the next five years about $100 million.

According to the press release, the choice of the software of PTC was partially caused by the certified cloud infrastructure of Software as Service company which conforms to requirements of Federal risk management system and authorization (FedRAMP) and also requirements of the 5th level of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Now a task of Naval Forces and PTC - careful work with users and software configuration according to their requests. Full scaling is planned for 2021 financial year. Transformation will concern not only managements of real things, but also upgrades of other IT systems. Naval Forces already announced that they are ready to update excess and outdated IT systems and to reinvest the released means in new programs. And such system as Windchill from PTC, will help to define type of IT systems which the VTR wants to liquidate and reinvest.^[1]
