2020: Start of Zimbra 9 Open Source from Zextras

On July 14, 2020 the company Zextras announced start of own version mail server Zimbra with loading from own repository and support. The solutions Zextras add in mail server Zimbra features for joint work, communications, support storages, mobile devices, reservation and recovery in real time, administrations of multitenantny infrastructures.

Zimbra is the mail server with the open code used in all branches of the economy, the public and educational institutions, service providers worldwide. In April, 2020 Synacor changed policy in the field of the publication of the open code. Since release of Zimbra 9 the project ceased to publish Zimbra Open Source Edition and was limited to release only of the commercial version of a product. It caused negative reaction of community of users of Zimbra with the open code, and under their pressure Synacor opened the Zimbra 9 codes for creation of in-house assemblies and their independent support.

In the created situation users of Zimbra OSE were come to the rescue by Zextras company which created in-house assembly of Zimbra 9 Open Source from Zextras and decided to support independently her further. Zextras assembly, is created on the basis of the source code provided to Synacor without any significant changes. Thanks to Zextras position users around the world could assert the right to use of current versions of a product with support at the expert level.

In addition to support of own branch of Zimbra 9 Open Source the Zextras company provided additional product capabilities: submission of several letters a cascade in the web client, function of the calendar and tasks, Zimbra chat, etc.
