2020: Implementation of a single laboratory information system based on TrakCare Lab Enterprise

On August 17, 2020 the company InterSystems announced that the network medical of laboratories KDL implemented uniform laboratory information system TrakCare Lab Enterprise.

For development in the conditions of digital transformation KDL laboratories needed the single laboratory information system (LIS) which could not only solve the current problems, but also contribute to the fast development of the company.

The partner of the project on creation of a uniform PIM for all laboratories KDL in the territory of Russia selected the InterSystems company which developed the solution for TrakCare Lab Enterprise laboratories. The supplier had experience in implementation of similar projects in the world, a full range of solutions for laboratory business and a pilot implementation team and maintenances in Russia. It also became the main selection terms of the supplier, told in the company.

Project implementation included replacement of several different PIMs applied by KDL in regions by a uniform PIM in all laboratories of Moscow and regions, integration with the existing systems and also deep study of integration processes and creation of a uniform pool of integration services. Capability of a PIM of TrakCare Lab Enterprise began to support by a key condition for project implementation fully multifilial structure in a single system, on uniform base, in a private cloud.

In the course of implementation the management system for master data and the normative reference information was created, the pilot project on several regional laboratories of KDL network is started. Then, after thorough training, in April, 2020 the PIM was let into mega-laboratories in Moscow, with a flow more than 50,000 researches a day. Implementation of a PIM against the background of epidemic of COVID-19 which demanded superquick response to new tasks became this stress test for an implementation team: input of new researches, connection of the new equipment and reorganization of internal processes.

According to Vladimir Ostrovsky, the director of strategic projects of InterSystems in Eastern Europe and the CIS, "a command of KDL and InterSystems laboratory performed replacement of several PIMs of the previous generation by the uniform centralized PIM. On complexity and scrupulousness of preparation it can be comparable with accomplishment of heart transplantation at the running person – it was necessary to execute transition from the old systems to new literally in several hours, without stopping accomplishment of tens of thousands of analyses".

By August 17 on a uniform PIM 5 regional laboratories KDL in Saratov, Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk and Novokuznetsk and the centralized laboratory in Moscow function. By the beginning of 2021 all other regional laboratories KDL will be connected to a system. In further plans – use of artificial intelligence technologies and machine learning which are also offered InterSystems.
