2020: The announcement of Gitee - a platform state analog for development of IT projects of GitHub
At the end of August, 2020 it became known about the authorities of China of an analog of GitHub service for development of IT projects. Thus, the authorities of Celestial Empire try to localize community of developers open source and to force the enterprises to use the state platform which received the name Gitee.
In August, 2020 official start of Gitee took place, but the platform earned earlier. In it there are 5 million developers and more than 10 million repositories. The main issue is in whether the Chinese developers with GitHub will pass to Gitee because of the arisen conflict. In turn the founder of Gitee says that he does not see himself replacement of GitHub and prefers "the world complete of hundreds of blossoming and bright colors". Many Chinese software developers open source also use the Coding.net platform which is supported by Tencent company. Public servants of China still should convince the Chinese developers to pass to the Gitee platform. However a number of developers in 2019 began to share successfully GitHub and Gitee Code Cloud for the projects.
Implementation of the project the consortium led by Open Source China - the firm from Shenzhen which is standing up for Gitee directs. The platform is supported not only by the government, but also the research universities and the private sector which includes group of 10 organizations, including Huawei which was affected by political tensions of the USA and China.[1]
