2020: Demonstration of segmentation of 5G network
On October 5, 2020 it became known that the companies Samsung Electronics and KDDI announced completion of the first demonstration of segmentation 5G of network (E2E) with the RAN (RIC) intelligent controller in Tokyo Japan. Partners showed versions of scenarios of use of technology which involves the virtualized cores Samsung and RAN and also solutions for management of them.
During demonstration of Samsung and KDDI studied advantages of segmentation of E2E 5G network, in particular, having tested a low delay, the guaranteed throughput and creation of several segments. Besides, they tested possibilities of the RAN (RIC) intelligent controller for the management of radio resources providing necessary quality of service.
Segmentation of E2E 5G network will play a key role for mobile operators as will allow to create several virtual networks within one physical network infrastructure. Each of them can have different characteristics of services, "segments" which allow to create services and business models. Thanks to it mobile operators will save on deployment, support of the existing service levels, reduction of time to market of services and increases in operational efficiency.
For example, within the same mobile network the provider is capable to select the segment with a low delay of communication intended for vehicles with automated management, and another – with high capacity for streaming of video. Both segments can be provided at the same time without need to involve additional network resources or declines in quality of communication. The companies can use segmentation of network for different tasks with a different priority[1].
