Financing of developments is provided to the companies within the first stage of the Agency of space development of the USA in purchase of satellites for detection and tracking of rockets, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (IBM) which can move to long distances and which are difficult for tracing and intercepting. It is supposed that they will transfer data on threats to satellites of "a transport layer" of defense space architecture of the Defense Ministry which project participants intend to place on a low earth orbit.

In 2019 SpaceX received from the Air Force $28 million for use of young satellite network Starlink for testing of the ciphered Internet services with a number of military airplanes, from the Air Force did not arrive any orders for development of the Starlink satellites.

In August, 2020 Elon Musk's company also signed the contract for $316 million for start of spacecrafts in 2022-2027 financial years for the benefit of U.S. Army. Development of rockets for orbital missions remains the main field of activity of SpaceX nevertheless.[1]
