Numa BIOS Adaptation for RAYbook Notebooks
ICL Techno announced on February 10, 2021 that they signed a technology partnership agreement with NTu.
The companies began cooperation in the development and production of computer equipment with a high degree of localization. The plans are to use joint competencies to create both individual products and complex IT solutions that meet information security requirements.
Scientific and technological potential of ICL of the Techno and NumaTeh will allow to create products and decisions which can be adapted for needs of the specific consumer. So, for example, in February 2021, work was organized and is underway to modify and adapt the first Russian basic I/O system - Numa BIOS for use in the ICL RAYbook line of laptops. Numa BIOS for RAYbook laptops is a complete replacement for the original BIOS and provides additional features. Numa BIOS provides full functioning operating systems of the Windows and Linux families, including domestic special-purpose operating systems.
It is worth noting that for computer and server equipment manufactured by ICL Techno, where Numa BIOS will be used as the basic I/O system, the possibility of using the Numa Arce trusted download module certified by the FSTEC of Russia will be available. Numa Arce is implemented as an EFI application and can be used to protect information in state information systems, personal data information systems, critical information infrastructure facilities, as well as in automated process control systems.
Separate executions of the server hardware ICL platforms of the Techno will be made with the preset entrusted Numa BIOS allowing to use the equipment as a part of decisions to which requirements for safety of information (ISPDN, GIS, the CUE) and also as a basis for creation of the program technical tool of information security are imposed . In addition, the companies plan to work together to create complex solutions based on the trusted server virtualization system Numa vServer, designed to build virtual infrastructures that scale to a geodistributed private or hybrid cloud.
2020: Completion of development of the domestic basic Numa BIOS I/O system for DEPO Neos
On October 9, 2020 the NumaTeh company reported about completion of development of a domestic basic system of input-output of Numa BIOS intended for equipment of personal devices of the range DEPO Neos of production of DEPO Computers. This development is the result of a technological partnership between a Russian computer manufacturer and a Russian developer of system, specialized software and information protection.
According to the company, the cooperation agreement and technological partnership between the Russian companies DEPO Computers and NumaTeh assumes use of scientific and technical, technological and production capacity of the parties for creation of the Russian computer facilities corresponding to criteria of import substitution.
As of October 2020, the DEPO Peresvet line of automated workplaces and the DEPO Neos line of all-in-ones are included in the register of domestic computing equipment, which is published on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. These personal devices are produced in Russia on the basis of the domestic depot motherboard.
For increase in level of information security and expansion of opportunities of a line of personal devices of the range DEPO Neos together with the NumaTeh company works on development and debugging of special execution of the Russian basic system of input-output of Numa BIOS for the motherboard of DEPOT are carried out.
The Numa BIOS software for DEPO Computers is created according to a specially developed technical assignment and implements all the capabilities of the DEPO motherboard, provides support for domestic operating systems and compatibility with Russian hardware identifiers in the form factor of smart cards and USB tokens. As the initial Numa BIOS codes belong to the Russian company NumaTeh, personal DEPO Neos devices with this option of a basic system of input-output are completely ready to certification on requirements of information security according to the regulatory framework operating in Russia, including according to requirements of the Russian power ministries and departments.
Numa BIOS is included in the Register of Domestic Software (the register is published on the website of the Ministry of Communications of the Russian Federation). The basic I/O system developed by NTu is fully compliant with the UEFI 2.7 specification.
In addition to Windows operating systems and freely distributed Linux distributions, Numa BIOS provides the boot and full functioning of domestic special-purpose operating systems. Tested the operation of the Astra Linus Special Edition OS (Smolensk release) on the DEPO motherboard with Numa BIOS. As a domestic alternative to a foreign-made BIOS, Numa BIOS makes it possible for Russian customers to use DEPO Neos personal devices.
For customers with advanced information security requirements, DEPO personal devices can be equipped with a trusted version of Numa BIOS, certified by the FSTEC of Russia in 4 trust levels. You can also install the Numa Arce trusted download software module. The Numa Arce software module corresponds to the level of loading record according to the classification of the FSTEC of Russia and can be used to protect confidential information in state information systems, critical information infrastructure facilities and automated process control systems. Unlike APMDZ, a trusted download software module built into the firmware of a personal device cannot be removed during the operation of the device. In addition, Numa Arce implements mechanisms to protect against unauthorized disconnection and blocking of the module. The ability of the trusted boot software module is to not have to allocate a separate slot for hardware installation. This for October 2020 is relevant for mobile devices/ultra-thin laptops (where there is no room for hosting classic APMDZ) and for server equipment.
Cooperation of the DEPO Computers and NumaTeh companies for October, 2020 continues. By the end of 2020, it is planned to equip the basic Numa BIOS I/O system with at least 3 more depot motherboards for personal devices and for server equipment (servers and storage systems).
In the long term with use of technologies and developments NumaTeh in the field of the entrusted virtualization is planned creation of a complete solution for expansion of the protected DPCs on the basis of the server hardware of DEPO Computers of the Russian production. This solution will be based on the trusted server virtualization system Numa vServer, designed to meet information security requirements and designed to create a secure virtual infrastructure that scales up to a geodistributed private or hybrid cloud.
In addition, it is planned to develop hardware and software firewall in the form of a separate device. Such devices are subject to increased safety requirements in accordance with the requirements of the FSTEC of Russia. The availability of source codes from the Russian company ON will allow you to pass the test and receive the FSTEC certificate of Russia for the developed firewall.[1]
