Launch for Estonian audiences

The book subscription service MyBook, which is part of the LitRes group of companies, announced on October 14, 2020 the launch of an application for Android and iOS platforms for the Estonian audience. MyBook is a service in Estonia that offers an audiobook catalog in Estonian and provides users with access to both electronic and audiobooks at the same time.

MyBook in Estonia, it was launched together with a partner - Eesti Digiraamatute Keskus OÜ - EDRK (Estonian Digital Book Centre), a platform for the wholesale sale of electronic books in the Baltic countries, and became a service with an audiobook catalog in Estonian: there are more than 100 in it for October 2020. Also in the local version MyBook more than 3,500 e-books are presented. The plans by the end of 2020 include the addition of books in Russian and English, as well as the placement of exclusive audio content.

According to EDRK estimates, the share of e-books occupies about 3% of the Estonian book market, by the end of 2020 it should grow to 4%, and in the future 3-4 years to reach an indicator of 10%. As of October 2020, industry sales amount to about 1 million euros per year. This figure increased markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Publishing houses in Estonia during the quarantine published twice as many e-books compared to the same period in 2019. Another factor in the growth of the industry is a decrease in VAT in Estonia from 20% to 9% from May 1, 2020 for e-books and publications. Over the past few months, e-book sales in the country have increased by 50%. The largest demand is observed in the public library sector, PPD sales grew by 8-9%, subscription - by 11%.

We plan that MyBook will become a major player in the electronic and audiobook industry in Estonia and the CIS countries, and we are actually going to rebuild the audiobook market in Estonia from scratch. As of October 2020, its role is insignificant, but we see a very large growth potential and expect an increase to 4% by the end of the year. First of all, this will be facilitated by the distribution of MyBook among the Estonian audience, as well as the interest of publishers in this form of content and the demand for audiobooks among users, since it is they who fits most successfully into their dynamic lifestyle, "comments Sergey Anuryev, General Director of LitRes Group of Companies.
