The State Department implements SD-WAN for $711 million

At the end of October, 2020 the U.S. Department of State announced the beginning of deployment of a software-defined global network (SD-WAN) for $711 million. The New York company MetTel which should provide to State Department the managed network with multilegal switching based on tags (MPLS) 3 levels with opportunities of a virtual private network (VPN) will be engaged in project implementation.

The order is expected 13 years. It is included into the delivery contract of solutions for corporate infrastructure (EIS) for the amount of $50 billion within which the U.S. Department of State is going to upgrade telecommunication and IT infrastructure.

MetTel has successful experience of conversion of the existing networks, providing performance improvement and access to opportunities of new generation, - the senior vice president and the general manager of MetTel Federal Robert Dapkiewicz noted.

The new global network will support work of division of communication services and data transmission due to integration of network connections in all departments of department in the USA, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Canada. The additional foreign websites will be added as the division transforms the system to hybrid network SD-WAN. MetTel will also provide data services which officials of State department will be able to monitor via the EIS portal.

The MetTel company already received dozen of purchase orders of solutions for corporate infrastructure in 2020 from six agencies at the level of the cabinet and six smaller agencies and also from Indian tribes for the amount more than $1.3 billion. Other agencies with which MetTel works include the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of internal security, Management of general services and Management of social security.[1]
