2024: Sentence - five years in a general regime colony in a fraud case

On January 23, 2024, a Moscow court sentenced the founder of the Academy of Private Investor Andrei Khovratov to five years in prison with serving a sentence in a general regime colony in a fraud case (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the press service of the capital's prosecutor's office, Khovratov, who served as general director of the Private Investor Academy, together with an accomplice on the wanted list and other unidentified persons created an insight with offers for users to become co-owners, shareholders, equity holders and shareholders of a global investment fund operating in all segments and sectors of the investment market. According to the prosecution, the attackers deliberately misled citizens, convincing that their investments would help implement the program of the new economic evolution of the world created by Khovratov and receive a high investment income.

As Kommersant writes with reference to the court decision, Andrei Khovratov, "having intent on illegal enrichment," created an organized criminal group "for the mass involvement of an unlimited number of people" in order to raise funds under the guise of investing in cryptocurrency. However, as the state prosecution and the court considered, in some cases the academy's clients were deceived.

The prosecutor's office added that the accomplices distributed the money received among themselves, evading the payment of dividend income from investing in cryptocurrency, as well as from the return of money.

The goals of the Private Investor Academy on the organization's website are called "educating at least 15% of the world's population on financial and investment literacy," implementing the "NEEMi (New Economic Evolution of the World) program," as well as forming a "class of multidisciplinary investment consultants, from 10 million people around the world." It is alleged that by the beginning of 2024, 1.6 million people from 180 countries took Academy courses.[1]
