2020: Development of self-regulating technology of management of multisatellite orbital groupings

On November 18, 2020 the Russian Space Systems Holding (RKS, is included into Roskosmos State corporation) announced development self-regulating technology of management of multisatellite orbital groupings with elements of artificial intelligence and the minimum participation of the person. It will allow to automate in the future management of satellite groupings from thousands of spacecrafts.

Transition from the applied point control of separate spacecrafts to management of system effect of all orbital grouping will become feature of technology. In the development specialists of RKS suggest to use methods of the approved self-organization – or a homeostasis which will allow to manage orbital structure, its number, system resources, a data network and the orbital computer network.

At the space grouping existing for November, 2020 in Russia consisting from more than 150 satellites, the land automated complex every day will see to 2 thousand sessions of management. The applied technology assumes service of each spacecraft separately: its working capacity and an orbital position is traced, deviations or threats are parried.

The traditional technology has the limits – the further growth of grouping taking into account restrictions on building of resources of management create collapse probability. This self-regulating technology will allow to implement domestic projects of multisatellite multiservice orbital groupings numbering from several hundred to thousands of spacecrafts for ensuring navigation, communication, remote sensing of Earth and other functions.

Problems of management of difficult multisatellite orbital grouping will be solved on the basis of the principles of a homeostasis as system adaptation to all range of influencing factors for establishment of a dynamic equilibrium and integrity of a system taking into account resource factors. It will allow to refuse resource-intensive "tough" technologies of control of separate satellites which assume obligatory parrying of negative impacts of factors of degradation of orbital grouping. Besides, the technologies of management of higher, system level including the whole complex of again developed methods of management, structure of a fabrication cycle of management and the maintenance of problems of information support will be implemented.

For this management system developers offer a hierarchical structure. At its top levels new tasks of management system and target will be entered by effects. The management system will independently define spacecrafts for formation of orbital structures for implementation of different target effects – carrying out space shooting of a surface, information transfer or a navigation signal and others. For this purpose she will estimate orbital positions of each satellite, their technical condition, availability of energy resource and stocks of a working body.

For further increase in opportunities of a self-regulating system for multisatellite orbital groupings it is supposed to use technology of GRID systems by creation of the global "virtual supercomputer" – associations in a single network of computing powers of automated control systems and spacecrafts.
