COM HPC Computer-On-Modules High Performance Computing the Standard of the built-in computers of a server class

2020: RTSoft and Kontron announced support of the standard "computers-on-module" of the server class COM-HPC

On December 17, 2020 it became known that the RTSoft company and the international holding Kontron announced support of the standard "computers-on-module" of the server class COM-HPC.

Such applications, artificial intelligence (AI) as well as autonomous transport means and also the developing standards wireless communications 5G and Internet prophetic (IoT), require transfer and processing of a certain number of data at big speeds. To cope with the growing requirements in the market, there will be already not enough existing built-in standards. The Kontron company, together with other producers of the industry of the built-in computers, created the working group in committee on standardization of PICMG association to make the COM standard suitable for the future. This Computer-On-Modules High Performance Computing standard (COM HPC) will supplement the existing COM Express. It is focused on industrial both various client and server applications with a proper performance and severe conditions of operation.

Peter Müller, the vice president of Kontron AG told

In COM-HPC two connectors with 4 × 100 contacts – in total 800 contacts which allow to apply such high-speed technologies as PCI Express 4.0/5.0, USB 3.2/4 will be used. and 25 Gigabit Ethernet providing network connection at a speed of 100 GbE.

The standard will include two types of a raspinovka for five different sizes. COM-HPC/Client (Size A, B, C) is intended for the built-in systems with a seat up to 160 x 120 mm in size, supports 48 PCIe lines, four the selected connector for displays with the proper permission, four ports USB 4.0 and four modules SODIMM.

COM-HPC/Server (Size D, E) is intended for work with boundary (edge) servers with a seat up to 200 x 160 mm in size, the speed of network of 8 x 25 GbE as interfaces and 64 x PCIe by lines. Orientation to the capacity of servers is accurately traced thanks to such parameters as the total power of 300 W and support to eight modules of memory of DIMM.

COM-HPC

One more possibility of COM-HPC is the integrated interface allowing to exercise remote control of a system. He will offer real functions of the boundary server which can be expanded due to integration of the corresponding server controllers of management of payments (BMC) at payments carriers.

Final ratification of the COM-HPC specification by PICMG association is planned for the end of 2020. The release of the server modules Kontron based on the COM-HPC standard is expected at the beginning of 2021.
