Softline delivered a hyperconvergent data processing solution to Dobroflot

2020: Create an updated IT infrastructure

On December 23, 2020, Softline announced that it had helped Dobroflot create an updated IT infrastructure. The customer got the optimal solution, which made it possible to increase the performance of the equipment and minimize the cost of updating it.

Dobroflot is one of the full-cycle enterprises - it has its own fishing fleet, processing production and trading network. As one of the leaders in the fishing industry of the country, the company is forced to maintain an extensive IT infrastructure for its own needs. A key element of this infrastructure is a powerful computing cluster. Previously, it functioned on classical infrastructure. At some point, its performance ceased to meet the growing needs of the customer. The leadership of Dobroflot decided to modernize.

The customer considered several alternative solutions. There was a proposal to switch to an updated classical infrastructure similar to the existing one. Another option is the introduction of a more productive hyperconvergent structure. The second solution was at first glance more costly, but the Softline team managed to demonstrate that the traditional three-tier architecture requires a large creation cost, is difficult to operate and scale.

As a result, the cost of all introduced products did not significantly exceed the cost of the new classical infrastructure. In addition, Dobroflot received installments for 12 months using the special Softline Finance service.

The upgrade of the customer's computing cluster included the supply of a hyperconvergent system, and VMware servers HPE a network. Cisco A reliable multi-year partnership with each of the vendors greatly simplified implementation. And in the case of HPE, it made it possible to get favorable conditions for the supply of the latest generation of equipment.

The hyperconvergent platform consists of tightly integrated storage virtualization software, computing resources, and a network with advanced management capabilities that enable automation. Virtualization software abstracts and pools basic resources, and then dynamically allocates them to applications that run on virtual machines.

Work was carried out in three settlements of Primorsky Krai at Dobroflot enterprises. The entire customer production cycle is supported by a hyperconvergent infrastructure. The implementation of the project allowed the customer to close his needs for IT equipment and data processing systems for the next 5 years. At the same time, Dobroflot's investments in support of its own IT infrastructure were reduced.

I consider the main breakthrough of this project to be effectively built communications with both the customer and vendors. We managed to prove in practice that high-quality is not always prohibitively expensive.
