On January 25, 2021 the Orange Business Services company announced a monitoring system of physical assets on the basis of RFID technology.

According to the company, within development of a portfolio of IoT-products the competence center in the field of Internet of Things of Orange Business Services in Russia and the CIS developed a monitoring system of physical assets on the basis of RFID technology (Radio Frequency IDentification, radio frequency identification). A system includes RFID tags, RFID readers and the platform software of development of Orange Business Services.

A system is intended for tracking of movements of different physical entities (assets) on platforms of production, storage and processing, such as, for example, production lines, warehouses, logistic and sorting centers. Tracking is performed by fixing on assets of passive tags of radio frequency identification (RFID tag) and the organization on the platform of the customer of points of their automatic control and accounting in which stationary or portable devices of data reading from RFID tags are installed (RFID readers).

The RFID tag binding to an asset and also collecting, storage, processing and data visualization from RFID readers is performed in the accounting system executed in the form of a software package. The software package is available as to placement in Orange data processing center (in this case the software package is provided to the customer according to the scheme SaaS – Software as a Service), and to delivery to the customer complete with the server hardware. Placement on the Customer's server is optionally possible.

RFID tags can store data, for example, on transportation of loads, mailings, the sold products or operation of a turnover container.

The device of some models of RFID tags, unlike the printed barcode, will allow to rewrite or supplement information which is stored in them, and all-weather or anti-vandal execution of RFID tags will allow to save data for all lifecycle of an asset. RFID readers can obtain at the same time data from hundreds of tags, the acquired information is stored on a remote physical server or in a cloud.

In a software package the administrator creates objects (any physical objects according to business processes of the client), appropriates them RFID tags, sets zones and correlates to them stationary readers. After that it is possible to identify location of objects on the platform of the customer. Any movement will be recorded by the reader and transferred to platform software, and if necessary and further to IT systems of the enterprise. If there is no opportunity to place the stationary reader in any zone, it is possible to use mobile or hand scanners. The administrator can trace any set event or their group in a system and unload results in formats necessary for it.

The complex equipment of one point of control on the platform of the customer takes three hours. System architecture of monitoring of physical assets on the basis of RFID technology provides a possibility of horizontal scaling – on one web portal it is possible to integrate all geographically distributed customer sites. The solution is covered with detailed API and allows to perform integration with EMS/WMS and other IT systems of the customer on demand.

On sections of warehousing and transportation of industrial enterprises thousands of routine transactions connected with placement, acceptance and sending goods are daily executed. Over loading gate of such sections of Orange Business Services places readers of own development. They allow to trace an asset on an object or beyond its limits.

On production lines a large number of assets moves on conveyer belts. The stationary readers placed over pipelines allow to control the nomenclature and quantity of both separate components, and finished goods.

The monitoring system of physical assets from Orange will help to increase capacity of the platform of the customer for the arriving motor transport: It is possible to equip with a RFID tag, for example, a frame of license plate number of the vehicle, and to enter data on tags in the database. Then barriers on entrance and departure will be able "to distinguish" the approaching car and automatically to open depending on existence/lack of admission to the platform. This solution can be applied on any fenced objects where control and accounting of motor transport is required.

Allows to make the decision on tracking of physical assets quicker, to send objects and to control their movement in real time. Including to automate an inventory control, to trace a remaining balance, to predict fullness of a warehouse, to check correctness and optimality of assembly of orders according to the waybill and timeliness of their shipment.
