2021: Design and implementation of the hybrid IT platform

On February 12, 2021 IT- the company Croc announced design and implementation of the hybrid IT platform for developers of digital products insurance of the company "Ingosstrakh". Resources, necessary for development and testing, depending on requirements and the current loading IT infrastructures can locally be provided now, from private cloud of the company and public clouds. Process of selection of capacities and formation of the corresponding environment is automated. It allows to accelerate providing infrastructure, to implement fully practicians DevOps and it is essential to reduce time to market of IT products.

Automatic selection of resources under development and test environments is implemented using two models: IaaS ("infrastructure as service") and PaaS ("platform as service"). The directory of necessary services is available to Ingosstrakh developers. Internal customers can be provided virtual machine from certain operating system and also already configured software. For example, among standard applications which are provided as service, – cluster and one-nodal configurations database management systems Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, service of the directory Microsoft Active Directory web server Microsoft IIS with a possibility of setup of network balancing, a mail system Microsoft Exchange , etc.

To receive resources, it is enough to fill a simple form on a web self-service portal. On configuring and selection of a test environment depending on its complexity from 10 to 60 minutes are required now. Employees of IT department are not involved in process of manual adjustment of operating systems and applications any more. It is enough to them to authorize process, and other work will be performed by the platform. Thus, administrators are exempted from routine operations on creation and maintenance of already unrolled environments. It gives economy on their service and big controllability, helps to analyze changes in the virtual machine and their influence on the specific environment or a system. Finally approach allows to focus on development and deployment of innovations.

Ingosstrakh brings a hybrid cloud to other level of a possibility of development, allowing it is easy to switch between own capacities and resources of public cloud provider. Automation of this process and convenient instruments of orchestration will help to create services of any level of complexity under any requirements of the company. Communications with clients, interaction of employees in the company pass into digit more and more. And from quality of IT developments, reduction of time of their output to the market the success and speed of business development depends. The solution also assumes more rational and economical use of infrastructure of the company. So, test problems it is possible to load own capacities now, and in case of their shortage or emergence of more priority projects – to transfer work to public clouds. The monitoring system and billing estimates type of the processed data, consumption and cost of resources that allows to plan budgets accurately.

The hybrid cloud is constructed based on products of the VMware vRealize family. Within the project especially for Ingosstrakh service which does possible migration of environments and data between different cloud providers and the local platform is also created.

We received the high speed of creation and providing test environments to internal customers and a possibility of use of external clouds in case of the unforeseen tasks requiring fast deployment of unplanned capacities. Thanks to automation we can quickly redistribute already involved resources. Such flexibility is what really is required to us during active digital transformation of our business. In the next plans – to scale the solution on 40 and more services on the PaaS model for our more than 300 developers. It considerably will increase product introduction speed due to increase in efficiency of development within flexible approach. Using experts of CROC IT company we had also ability to integrate with the main external service providers and excellent vendor support.
